Ghost Light Residency is a BEMOVING program devoted to granting Los Angeles-based dance artists from marginalized communities time, space, and resources to creatively invest in their artistic voice.
Each Ghost Light artist is awarded a week-long residency inside of a Los Angeles theater to deepen their artistic practice with access to the theater’s lighting grid and sound system. Artists receive a $1000 honorarium and valuable assets in the form of high quality photo and video documentation from their residency. Ghost Light artists are not required to present a completed work at the end of the program in order to relieve them of any pressure to produce while creatively researching, but do engage in a free public event that invites members of the community to meet the artists through an informal showing and Q&A.
To avoid hierarchical decision making, Ghost Light artists are chosen via lottery from a pool of applicants who meet our eligibility criteria.
