LIZA & NIJINSKY PRETENDING TO BE

LIZA & NIJINSKY PRETENDING TO BE is a collaborative duet by JULIA EICHTEN and KEVIN ZAMBRANO developed at LA Dance Project’s LAUNCH 2024 residency and produced by BeMoving. By embodying Liza & Nijinsky, this duo calls upon the character within through splicing reality and bringing forward the magic of THEATER.

Framed in the spectacle of a talk show, LIZA & NIJINSKY PRETENDING TO BE poses the question “what if these two met?” By melding them together, Kevin and Julia challenge the limitations and capacities of these characters as they go beyond impersonations into a world of magic and fantasy. They beg the viewer to use the assumption of these known characters and not view it as a historical lesson. Instead, engage in an activation of curious questioning of an imagined past. Propelling these four characters into the ever present moment of live theater.
